'The Last Guardian' Will Meet Expectations, Sony Confirms; Creator Fumida Ueda 'Nervous' About Own Game
Jazz RosinAfter almost ten long years, "The Last Guardian" is finally able to spread its wings. Despite the buildup of high expectations for the game due to the long development time, Sony is confident that the game will live up to these expectations.
The game has been in development since 2007, but the president of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Yoshida Shuhei is not worried about not meeting the fans' expectations.
"I have confidence in the team and Ueda-san's vision," he said during an interview with Gameswelt. "We are so excited to finally be able to play this game that needed to be out."
Yoshida went on to say that jumping from PS3 to PS4 in between the development cycle was one of the reasons why it took so long for the game to be released.
"A lot of the engineering effort had to be redone from scratch," Yoshida said. "So that contributed to the length of the project."
Despite the long wait, Yoshida is confident that fans will enjoy "The Last Guardian," and both Team Ico and Sony are excited to show off the game.
The whole team might be excited, but the same may not apply to the game's creator himself, Fumito Ueda. The game developer said that he is nervous about his own game's release.
"With all my titles - when the game is released, I'm extremely nervous," Ueda meekly told The Guardian in an interview. "In the week after the release I don't want to look at the game. All I'll see are the flaws."
"Along the way, you have doubts, you have concerns," Ueda told Wired in a separate interview. "Then you release the title, and suddenly: oh my God, I'm going to find out whether I should have done it this way."
Ueda's nervousness is understandable, taking into consideration the hype that surrounds his game. But if the universal acclaim received by his previous titles "Ico" and "Shadow Of The Colossus" are any indication, then he (and the fans) should have nothing to worry about.
"The Last Guardian" is finally coming out for the Playstation 4 on October 25.
