The latest flagship from Apple, the iPhone 16 Pro has been impressive so far with its camera performance. It, however, does have a troubling bug that makes the phone reboot randomly, although other than that, everything is all good with daily performance.

There are complaints about this on the internet- be it on Reddit or Apple Support Communities. This mode of sudden reboot can easily be said to be both due to iOS 18.0.1 (stable) and iOS 18.1 (beta). The bug mainly occurs on the iPhone 16 Pro as well as Pro Max models. While this phenomenon occurs rarely for most users, other users seem to often experience frequent crashes, thus severely disrupting their experience.

Random Reboots Enslave iPhone 16 Pro Users

Many users with iPhone 16 Pro are complaining about the random restarts they have been experiencing with their devices. What's the fix for this new problem? appshunter.io/Unsplash

Several iPhone 16 Pro users have reported random restarting, which seriously affects the general user experience. It reboots at random times, either when in use or idle, such that notifications and text messages may sometimes go unnoticed. Some also reboot while in the pocket or even when left on the desk, further aggravating those who feel they need to have a constant connection, according to MacRumors.

iOS Versions Affected by the Bug

The issue is seen on iOS 18.0.1 and its beta counterpart, iOS 18.1. Early on, it was thought the problem lay specifically with the beta group testing; however, new evidence has surfaced, which confirms that the stable version also shares the problems.

For a user who registered for early access with the beta release, this is another thing to be concerned about the reliability of the operating system.

Screen Response Problems Due to Reboot

While some parts of the restart issue might be a little shocking, other symptoms users are experiencing with this issue include their screens freezing up before going dark and the iPhone rebooting.

Again, this is not a phenomenon that allows the user to enjoy his or her iPhone 16 Pro smoothly, whether he or she happens to be idle or on an active roll using the device. For some users, the iPhone restarts as often as 20 times a day, whereas for others it may occur just a few times a week, Android Authority observes.

The Replacement Device Does Not Cure the Disease

Apparently, users are moving towards getting replacement iPhone 16 Pro devices in the hope of rectifying the issue. But even after getting new devices, these continue to suffer from random rebooting problems, a problem of deeper origin located deep into the iOS system, not merely a product of hardware malfunctions. This has frustrated lots of users since, as one would expect, "switchceptions" did not solve the problem.

Interestingly, some of the users reported experiencing the problem to have been seemingly resolved on their devices after not restoring from an iCloud backup during the process of setting up. That worked for a few of them but otherwise, new installations by some produced random occasional reboots which could be indicative that the described fix may not be correct after all cases.

Even though the iPhone 16 Pro is a performance powerhouse, there is a random reboot bug that afflicts this population. The company still hasn't been able to fully remedy this problem for some of its users and, therefore, has to put up with an unreliable device.
