'Rise Of The Tomb Raider' vs 'Uncharted'? 'There Is No Rivalry', Crystal Dynamics Says

Crystal Dynamics has stated its opinion about the ongoing issue with one of its main franchises "Tomb Raider" and its fiercest rival, Naughty Dog's "Uncharted" series.

Since the two Triple A action adventure titles share a number of similarities with each other, it has become a huge point of debate in the community on which game is actually better.

Speaking to International Business Times, Crystal Dynamics community manager Meagan Marie said that it's not a "huge war," and there is definitely "no rivalry" between the two franchises.

"We love action adventure games, right? 'Uncharted' is a fantastic series, and they do a lot of things very well," she said. "I think there's room for multiple franchises in the genre. I think the 'rivalry' is just kind of silly. There is no rivalry between us."

Marie went on to say that the devs feel like "Tomb Raider" and "Uncharted" are very different games which just happened to be "in the same space."

"We compete with ourselves to try to improve upon our own games and so on," the community manager explained. "We also feel that we're very different games. Especially since we really settled on survival as our key lens that we took traversal and combat and all these things through."

Marie also confirmed that there is more in store for iconic heroine Lara Croft in the future. A new movie starring Swedish actress Alicia Vikander is currently in the works, and is slated for a 2018 release, according to Variety. Dark Horse has also released a reboot of the "Tomb Raider" comics, and Lara has also invaded the mobile gaming scene with "Lara Croft Go."

While Lara is still active in the scene, her "Uncharted" counterpart Nathan Drake has retired from his adventuring duties, with his story coming to a fitting conclusion in "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End." However, an "Uncharted" movie is also in development, although the proposed June 2017 release date has been delayed yet again.
