The long wait for the highly anticipated role-playing game is set to come to an end, as Team Ico's "The Last Guardian" is finally gone gold.

Sony Interactive Entertainment big boss Shuhei Yoshida proudly declared on Twitter that the much awaited game has gone gold.

"I've waited a very long time to say this," the Sony executive said. "'The Last Guardian' has gone gold! I'm so excited for you all to finally experience it."

Fans who have followed "The Last Guardian"'s long history of development hell, which was peppered by numerous issues and delays will now be able to rest easy. Yoshida, in particular, is very excited about the game, having spoken about his love for the other Team Ico games previously.

"Ico was the first videogame ever for me to care about an AI character, Yorda,"Sony's boss Shuhei Yoshida said on a recent feature on "The Last Guardian" on the Playstation Blog.

"There were no conversations that I could understand between the characters, just the behavior of Yorda in relation to what I did, or the situation presented, that made me feel like Yorda was a living person - thinking and feeling as an individual." the Sony boss went on.

"I believe, as a fan of Ueda-san's games, that people feel like his work is special because you clearly feel the game was - from beginning to end - a singular vision, without any influence of popular genres or styles at the time." Yoshida proudly declared.

Prior to Yoshida's announcement, "The Last Guardian" producer Jun Yoshino also tweeted about the completion of Team Ico's decade-long project. "Gone gold. Waddup," Yoshino simply said on Twitter. The tweet was deleted an hour after, but was already caught by various media sites, including Polygon.

Fellow fans, the long wait is finally over. "The Last Guardian" will be released exclusively on the Playstation 4 on Dec. 6.
