There were a lot of "StarCraft II" related announcements made at BlizzCon this year, but what else is in store for its huge fanbase in the future?

In an interview with Gamespot during the recently concluded annual Blizzard event, "StarCraft II" assistant art director Allen Dilling talked about how "StarCraft" changed over the years, as well as the future of the franchise.

"I was there for 'Warcraft 3', which did really well. Going into 'StarCraft 2', it was definitely a conscious thought," the Blizzard veteran recalled. "We knew that 'StarCraft 1' was so popular, especially in Korea and the competitive scene. We were terrified of making a mistake with 'StarCraft 2'."

Dilling also said that the charm of "StarCraft" lies on the "drama" of the esports competitive scene.

"Watching these pro players react to the moment that it's happening is just astounding. For me, that builds a lot of drama," Dilling explained. "If there's too much predictability in something, I find that I'm not going to be as drawn into it. But, because of the way that esports is growing, there are always new faces. It's different every time, and to me that's a lot of the draw."

Talking about the future of "StarCraft" as an esport, Dilling hopes that the game extends far beyond those who are already familiar with it.

"I think 'StarCraft 2' is one of the best 1v1 competitive games out there," Dilling commented. "People who aren't familiar with games can get caught up in it, and that's where I hope we grow."

Meanwhile, the third and final mission pack for "StarCraft 2" will be released later this month, following the storyline of the standalone expansion "Legacy of the Void."

The last Nova Covert Ops mission pack will be released on Nov. 22 which will feature the new co-op commander Alexei Stukov. Each packs cost $7.49, but those who have not downloaded any of the packs yet may get them as a bundle for a discounted price of $14.99. Check out the Battle.net Shop for more details.
