Google Chrome right now is on a dream run. After beating Mozilla's Firefox browser just six months back, the Google browser has become the numero uno in terms of most-popular browser defeating Microsoft's Internet Explorer, reported Statcounter, the website analytics company.
According to the report, Google's Chrome browser, that's gaining momentum lately and putting immense pressure on the IE, went up to 32.76 percent, compared to Microsoft's share of 31.94 percent during the week of May 14 to May 20.
Even when the market share of Chrome went down to 31.88 percent at the beginning of the week, the Google browser still managed to keep the top position beating IE's 31.47 percent share.
This is, however, not the first time that the Chrome became the world's most-used internet browser. It had defeated the Microsoft alternative earlier on 18 March 2012. But, that success was short-lived as Chrome soon fell back to second place leaving the top secured for the Microsoft browser.
Meanwhile, CNET has informed that the StatCounter's report should be read with a pinch of salt as the analytics company's method of analyzing data is little different from other firms. According to the top tech website, StatCounter counts only raw page views and do not take into account the geographic differences of global browsing patterns and its own network usage, leaving a big gap between the real and counted usage. StatCounter, however, has now started removing pre-rendered pages. While StatCounter reports show Chrome's improved market share, some other reports from NetMarketShare show that Internet Explorer still enjoys 54 percent share this month, followed by Firefox with 20 percent and Chrome with 19 percent.
Why Chrome is a hit among the users?
The first and foremost reason behind Chrome's success as a browser can be attributed to the brand Google, which is almost like a synonym for reliability. Additional features like fast browsing, a GUI that is streamlined, simple and user friendly, no need for separate search box, security, creating thumbnails of most used web pages and its facility to let you stay incognito, which make the Google browser popular among the Internet users, believe experts.
But...Chrome Still Second in US
Despite its worldwide success, Chrome is still lagging behind the Internet Explorer in the US. Even when Chrome dominates the global market share with almost 33 percent, it enjoys only 23.83 percent share in the US, compared to Microsoft's 37.81 percent present market share. Chrome has been successful mainly in the Europe and the browser has toppled IE from No.1 rank by more than 1 percentage point.
Internet Explorer - Declining Market Share
Internet Explorer, after ruling the US market share with 45 and 47 percent until February 2012, suddenly has started going below 40 percent. In last few weeks, Internet Explorer has fallen down from 37.8 percent of the share to 30.9 percent while Chrome moved up from 23.8 percent to 27.1 percent. The major reason for its falling status is its failure to innovate and introduce new and intutive features, believe many.
