Android Nougat For Samsung Galaxy S7 And S7 Edge May Be An Android 7.1.1 Update
Gio C.Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users may have to wait a little further as the South Korean tech giant is said to be preparing a nicer treat for its devices.
Previously, Samsung's Galaxy Beta Program allowed users of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge to test the latest Android operating system on their respective smartphones. The software being used in the program is Android Nougat version 7.0.
The beta program is still ongoing, as users enrolled to the program are still receiving beta builds of the Nougat software as of December 7th. The program seems to be progressing, but recent beta builds are still having a few issues that are yet to be resolved.
However, a recent response from a user inquiry confirms that Samsung will be updating its Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge directly to Android 7.1.1 instead. Although this may mean several more weeks of delays, as beta users are yet to update their devices to the 7.1.1 beta build.
With this development, the final build may be released in early 2017. If Samsung would be able to release their 7.1.1 update soon, the company may be one of the earliest outside Google to update their devices with the latest Android version, alongside Motorola.
It has been reported that the previous-generation Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will also be getting an Android Nougat update, although there are no further details available as of press time.
The Android 7.1.1 update brings along new user-friendly features like new gender-equality emojis, GIF images support right from the system keyboard, and context menus which can be accessed by long-pressing the app's icon on the home screen, or on the app drawer.
The latest Android version also supports Google Daydream VR. This technology will greatly benefit the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge's VR capabilities as it may compliment the company's own Samsung Gear VR platform.
Stay tuned as more news regarding the Samsung Android Nougat update surfaces.
