'Steep' Freestyle Guide: Glide Through Mountains Like A Pro
Gram"Steep" is Ubisoft's new extreme (winter) sports game and an attempt to revive the old game genre that was present in Playstation before (SSX anyone?). The game features four different sports namely Snowboarding, Wingsuit flying, Skiing, and Paragliding.
Like in real life, going down those snowy trails is no easy feat. Thankfully, DTR Reviews has a guide to help us become a pro freestyler.
Do the tutorial
First of all, take your time doing the tutorials. This will give you an introduction on how those four sports mentioned works. You can also work on how to get the hang of controls during this period so you can properly execute tricks later during the freestyle.
It is also worth noting that since the controls on PC is by default on keyboard and mouse (you can opt to use a controller or not), Ubisoft post an official tutorial video to help the PC players.
Planning is everything
Use your first departure to have an idea of the route. This will be your planning phase, checking out possible shortcuts and what hazards to be aware of. You don't have to do a perfect run on this part, just focus on checking the entire area.
No time to waste
If you feel that your first departure is not doing well however, you can opt to restart and do it all again. After all you're still being scored so if things go bad midway, don't waste any more time and restart. This will also help you memorize the area by doing it over and over.
Use quick trip
After going down the slope you can hike your way back up there or you can use fast travel. Not only this saves time but it's also convenient. Use this to explore the mountains further without the unnecessary drag.
Practice, practice, practice
It's a common knowledge that with games like this, the more you practice, the better you'll get. So do a lot of reruns and polish your skills. Also don't be hesitant to try new routes as this will help you memorize the area. You may also opt to play with your friends, try to beat them as a practice for harder challenges.
Scan the area (with binoculars)
Make a good use of your binoculars by scanning the whole area with it. Not only will it help you find great spots, it will also unveil new spots and events.
Best jumps
In order to give a power boost to your jump, DTR Reviews suggests that you should start out with a squat. Keep the jump button pressed after you take off, and after that you can change your direction by simply changing your direction. Also note that you should secure your landing as you'll lose points for a bad one.
Use routes
As we pointed earlier, don't be hesitant to try new routes. You will discover ramp like things are other things you can use for different stuns. And while doing this experiment on your maneuvers while on air. Simply grabbing your board while on air will give you lots of points.
Stay tuned for more guides on "Steep."
