How to Update and Root XXU1BPL2 Official Firmware on Samsung Galaxy S7 edge

Samsung S7 and S7 Edge users just can't wait for Android 7.0 Nougat to come out soon! However, for now, let's take time to install all these needed updates.

According to Team Android, XXU1BPL2 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow firmware on Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, comes with the newest Security Maintenance Release (SMR) for the month of December 2016.  The installation of these security patches fixes bugs and other vulnerabilities.

Try out the following steps in this tutorial from WCCFTech and Team Android to update and root Galaxy S7 edge on XXU1BPL2 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow official firmware.

Note: This only applies for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

Installation of XXU1BPL2 Android 6.0.1 on S7 edge

Files needed before proceeding: Download (https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/114854/G935FXXU1BPL2_G935FATO1BPJ1_ATO/) G935FXXU1BPL2 Android 6.0.1 for Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and extract the contents to get the .tar.md5 file. Also, download Odin v3.10.7 for installation from here (https://www.android.gs/download-odin-3-10-7/).

-      Switch off your smartphone and boot it in Download mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Power and Home buttons at the same time.

-      Open Odin and connect your smartphone with your computer. When connected, ID;COM boxes will turn yellow.

-      On Odin, select the following files:

o   Click on AP/PDA and select file with AP or Code in its name (this would be the extracted .tar.md5 file)

o   Click on CP/Phone and select file with MODEM in its name - ignore if you didn't get any such file.

o   CSC and select file with CSC in its name - ignore if you didn't get any such file.

o   Click on PIT and select the. pit file - ignore if you didn't get any such file.

o   BL and select file with BL in its name - ignore if there is no such file.

-      Make sure to check Auto Reboot and F.Rest Time. Check Re-Partition only if you selected the .pit file.

-      Click on Start to initiate the update process.

-      When Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow installation is successfully completed, you will get a PASS message and your phone will restart.

-      Once you see the home screen, you can unplug your Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.

After you have successfully installed XXU1BPL2 Android 6.0.1, proceed to the steps to root Galaxy S7 edge on December security update.

Root Galaxy S7 edge G935F on XXU1BPL2 Android 6.0.1

Files needed before proceeding: Download Chainfire root tool for Exynos Samsung Galaxy S7 edge here (https://www.devfiles.co/download/41EeLTeZ/CF-Auto-Root-hero2lte-hero2ltexx-smg935f.zip) for SM-935F and extract.

-      Unzip Chainfire .zip file and retrieve .tar .md5 file on your computer.

-      Switch off your smartphone and enter Download mode: Press and hold Volume Down + Home buttons at the same time and then press Power button until you see the construction Android robot sign. Press Power button again to confirm.

-      Open Odin on your computer and connect your smartphone on your computer while it is in Download mode. When connected successfully, you will get a message from Odin saying Added!!

-      In Odin, click on the AP/PDA button and select CF-Auto-Root file that was downloaded.

-      Make sure that Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are selected, click on Start to initiate root process.

-      When the root process is finished, you will get a PASS message and ID;COM will turn green.

-      Once your device automatically reboots and you see the Home Screen, you can disconnect your smartphone.
