Prisma Update: App Of The Year Improves Photo Quality; Gets Even Better

Garnering 85 million downloads in just six months, there's a reason why Google and Apple have dubbed Prisma as the App of the Year. This photo-editing app transforms basic, everyday photos into stunning visual masterpieces; the creativity and originality of the concept, plus the world-class execution, has garnered a huge amount of support.

Since its official debut last June 2016, Prisma has gone through a couple of standard updates. Their latest version may be the biggest one yet.

Prisma is an easy-to-use app that provides endless hours of entertainment via spicing up your pictures. Instead of using Instagram-style features, however, Prisma uses algorithms to turn your photo into a literal work of art. You upload a photo, choose from a wide range of famous artists' styles to emulate, and the app does the rest. In a matter of seconds, your photo will look like a painting done by Levitan or Picasso.

With the latest version, the biggest change is a new social feature, according to Make Use Of. Prisma has become a social network in its own right --- with hundreds of thousands of users taking pictures, running it through Prisma, and sharing the result via other social media platforms such as Instagram or Tumblr.

According to Mashable, the new update involves "Profile" and "Feed" tabs, both of which are practically self-explanatory. You can create your own Prisma profile, follow other users, and post your masterpieces for them to see. The "Feed" tab uses your location to feature photos taken and posted nearby. The more likes a photo amasses, the further it is spread all over the network. Theoretically, a user could get his/her photo seen worldwide, as long as it gets enough likes. Your feed also generates photos posted by users you follow, much like Instagram, and most recent posts.

Other reported improvements include higher resolution and adjustable aspect ratio. Available for download on both iOS and Android, Prisma has indeed set the bar high and it shows no signs of slowing down.
