Pokemon Players Disqualified As Cheaters; But It May Have Been A Mistake
MJDTrouble arose during a recent Pokemon tournament in Europe earlier this year when some competitors were deemed as cheaters. However, the participants are now speaking up, declaring that the organizers wrongfully disqualified them from the tournament.
According to Kotaku, some players voiced out their concerns over what happened during a European Pokemon tournament called the EU Internationals. They revealed that the organizers of the said tournament utilized team sheets as a way to check the qualifications of teams. From there, they then penalized those with wrong information.
However, those who were partaking in the tournament explained that this was not a standard used for past Pokemon tournaments. In addition, the punishments presented to those with wrong information were too harsh, as said by the competitors.
A past runner-up of a Pokemon World Championship named Jonathan Evans explained that merely writing down the wrong item lost him one of his monsters. "I had been practicing with Meadow Plate Tapu Bulu, but at the last second I changed to Miracle Seed. Miracle Seed and Meadow Plate each do the same thing; both give a 1.2x boost to the power of Grass moves," he said.
Evans also explained that other players at the EU Internationals, who were also notable Pokemon competitors, received punishments as well, causing them to lose Pokemon and other items. With that, there is still a lot of controversy regarding what happened during the tournaments.
Meanwhile, there are reports by Game Rant stating that the new level of strictness regarding the tournaments may be due to the newly released "Pokemon Sun" and "Pokemon Moon." Due to some cheating incidents on the 3DS games, the tournaments may be taking extreme measures to ensure rightful wins.
Although some competitors were outraged, other Pokemon tournament participants commended the judges for their efforts to maintain the game's integrity. However, the organizers of the said event have yet to be contacted for any comments.
