A new kind of device may soon be the next best thing. Experts believe that foldable devices, especially smartphones, may rise in popularity in the coming years.
According to Kolon Industries Executive Kang Chung-seok, the industry may soon see a growth in foldable displays. Android Authority writes that the new innovation is forecast to have a 20 percent market share, which will bring new sets of gadgets to the mix.
Kolon Industries is known for its partnership with big companies such as Samsung and LG. The company has knowledge on what new innovations can be expected in the years ahead. However, Kang predicted that this growth may not be seen until 2019.
He also added that around three to five companies will begin presenting foldable smartphones by 2018. Another prediction is that the first models of the devices will have a 5mm bend radius. This means that the new gadgets can be bent at a reasonable degree before damage occurs.
However, it may still be awhile until gadgets reach a 1mm bend radius, which is said to be the ideal state. With that, tech companies will most likely start off with 5 mm, following future models with a narrower bend radius.

Other brands like Lenovo are also said to be working on foldable device that could revolutionize the industry. However, there has yet to be any confirmed news on when such gadgets will be available for release. In the meantime, fans will have to wait for more news on when the new innovation could be presented.
