There has been a shortage for the Nintendo NES Classic Edition console especially that it's one of the most highly in demand present for gamers this holiday season. Good news though, because there are Nintendo NES Classic Edition alternatives to find, or get a replacement which also offers classic games.

Game Over Videogames sits in Northeast Houston, where people can find the NES although it doesn't last long according to Khou 11 in its most recent trip to the store. It had the original NES circa 1985 for $69.99 until some lucky soul got the chance to have it on Dec. 21.

Store manager Shelby Smith told Khou 11 that there's a huge possibility that they can get another Nintendo NES Classic Edition after it's sold out. Game Over Videogames is a like a pawnshop for gamers where they trade in their old games and consoles for cash.

"We might have one today and not tomorrow but we always have the reproduction consoles that play the classic games," Smith said. A reproduction console would be perfect for those who are in search for vintage NES games to play with, which costs $50.

The reproduction consoles are in stock most of the time, which has nearly 1,000 games especially created for the NES, which Smith said that it's the best alternative for people who want to explore all the games that they used to play when they were kids. There are only about 60 pre-loaded games in the new Nintendo NES Classic Edition.

According to Thrillist, shoppers can find a handful of options available like At Games' Sega Genesis Classic Console that costs between $35 and $70 at Bed, Bath & Beyond and on Amazon. The Retro-Bit Super RetroTRIO Console costs $67.50 and there are no built-in games that come with it although it can be supplied with cartridges.

Lastly, the Custom Raspberry Pi emulator can run emulated ROM versions of video games and has the ability to play anything from Sega Genesis and Atari 2600 to N64 and the OG Sony PlayStation. It costs between $40 and $100.

Not lucky enough to get the hot retro Nintendo console? Consider some of the cool Nintendo NES Classic Edition alternatives for Christmas presents.
