Samsung Galaxy S3: Sammy Unveils TecTiles NFC Smart Tags for the Device

Johnny Wills

It looks like that S Beam is not the only NFC based feature in Samsung Galaxy S3. The Korean semiconductor giant unveiled on Tuesday programmable NFC sticker tags called TecTiles which let you perform an array of tasks when the device is waved across a TecTiles sticker.

Samsung on Tuesday showed off its NFC sticker named "TecTiles" for Galaxy S3 that can be programmed through the device to perform specific tasks. Basically TecTiles is a small square-shaped sticker that can interact with your smartphone. Tapping on the TecTiles with the smartphones triggers related tasks.

TecTiles can be programmed through any NFC-powered Samsung smartphone to do specific tasks like change settings, open an app or place a call. However, you will need the Samsung TecTiles app, which can be downloaded from Google Play Store, to program the NFC stickers.

Samsung is selling TecTiles in pack of five stickers for $14.99. TecTiles NFC stickers are up for purchase on Samsung Web site. TecTiles NFC sticker tags are also available for purchase online and in-store from Verizon Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint.

Not just Galaxy S3, the TecTiles work on other NFC-powered Galaxy lineup of smartphones too, including Samsung Galaxy S2 and Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
