LG is eyeing a new portable speaker that can levitate while playing your favorite tunes. The South Korean corporation will be unveiling more about the floating speaker at the upcoming CES 2017.

LG's PJ9 Levitating Portable Speaker is no gimmick. The speaker hovers over its base charging station through the help of electromagnets. According to PCmag, a full charged PJ9 can simultaneously levitate and play music for a long period of time. It can reportedly stay afloat up to 10 hours and then slowly descend to its Levitation Station for recharging.

Future owners can still play their tunes despite the unit being docked and recharged. LG categorizes the PJ9 as a portable speaker. Moreover, it also has the ability to connect to two different Bluetooth devices. Music lovers will be able to carry the PJ9 anywhere; but LG insists that speaker is a home audio device.

Aesthetically, the speaker looks like a pod from the famous "Star Wars" franchise. LG's PJ9 will also be durable enough to withstand water immersion, thanks to the IPX7 rating. An IPX7 compliant device can survive one-meter of water submersion for 30 minutes, like the Apple Watch. In a post by The Verge, the PJ9 Levitation Station will also double as the speaker's subwoofer system.

Having a portable speaker that can float while playing your favorite tunes will need to perform sound-wise. That's why LG has tuned the PJ9 to sound good in mid-range tones and crisp falsetto highs. The sound will be driven by LG's Dual Passive Radio technology. Until consumers will be able to get hold of the device, curious individuals might want to check out LG's Booth at CES 2017 on January 5, 2017. The company has not yet revealed the possible price for the PJ9.
