Not very long ago, reports came rolling in that Verizon is sending out text messages about Android 4.0 ICS update for Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. However, Verizon said that it is unaware of any such text messages and advised people to report it as spam. Nevertheless, now it appears that those messages were legitimate and sent out mistakenly as the Android 4.0 update manual for Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx is now online on Verizon Wireless' Web Site.
Motorola has updated its Web site with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich page giving a sneak peak about what updates the new Android operating system will bring to its Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx smartphones. Subsequently, Verizon Wireless has also composed an upgrade manual (in PDF format) regarding Android 4.0 roll out for its Motorola smartphones.
According to Verizon Wireless, the update is 354MB in size. Depending on network conditions, the update will take 20-70 minutes to download and additional 10-20 minutes to install on the device. There is a chance that auto-update can fail, so the carrier is suggesting users to update the smartphone manually.
It is good news for Motorola Droid Razr and Razr Maxx owner who have been waiting for the update for a long time. Many release dates, regarding Android 4.0 update for the two Motorola smartphones, had been rumored in past. The dates came and went without any official news. In recent rumors, June 21 was raised as possible release date, but eventually it turned out to be a false prediction too.
Citing anonymous tipster, Droid Life is claiming that the update will start rolling out on June 27. We recommend you to take this date seriously, as we have proof now that Verizon will be rolling out Android 4.0 ICS update for Motorola Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx on or before June 30. Even in its Android 4.0 update list, Motorola has listed the update for Droid Razr and Razr Maxx in Q2 2012, which is ending June 30.
The update will bring new features, including changes to lockscreen and homescreen, customizable widgets, new People app, updates to camera app, face unlock, updates to browser, data manager, ability to capture screenshots natively, voice input and improved social networking integration.
Update: Verizon Wireless confirmed on Friday that the update is rolling out in phases starting June 22. Motorola confirmed that only selected users have received the update, while the rest of the users will be getting it in upcoming few days.
