Google Home Tips: How To Set Up Your Own Google Assistant
Arianne GiftPossibly the coolest thing you can do with your Google Home is to use your voice to accomplish tasks around your house. Yes -- you actually become Tony Stark and have your very own J.A.R.V.I.S. by simply taking advantage of the IF This Then That (IFTTT) and Google Assistant Integration. Through this initiative, you can program Google Home to have a conversation with you using a few key phrases.
According to Android Central, several companies, such as Amazon and Facebook, have been using this method for a while now; and you can connect hundreds of things to IFTTT. If you want to get the best out of our Google Home, read on.
Setting Up Your Own Google Assistant
First thing's first. Set up an IFTTT account, which works also works with Pixel. Choose the option to make a New Applet, search for "assistant" and select "Say a simple phrase." You'll be directed to a screen where you can set up how the AI will respond to specific phrases.
In setting up phrases, be as simple as you can be. See to it that the phrase is easy to say for Google Home to trigger the formula. Try not to use punctuations, since the Assistant will not analyze that. If you already have an idea what to say, you can start programming how Google Home replies to you. According to CNET, a simple "Good morning" can give you a lot of updates if triggered properly.
The final step is to set up "Then That" so the formula would work. Here's how it works: every time you make a command starting with "Okay, Google," Google Home sends you a notification. To enable this option, search for "notifications" and key in your text notifier. Once it's programmed, the IFTTT applet will deliver a notification to your smartphone, which is actually great, especially if you have other people using it.
There you have it. You have now made Google Home talk to you. Now you can do cool stuff around your house, ala Iron Man.
