‘Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare,' 'Battlefield 1' & 'Titanfall 2' Sales Make Analyst Michael Pachter's Prediction A Bit Off
Arianne GiftWedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter is synonymous to controversial, at least in the tech and gaming industry. However, his predictions have been on point on more than one occasion, whether detractors would admit or not. The latest to make the headlines right now is his analysis on "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare," "Battlefield 1" and "Titanfall 2."
"I think 'Titanfall' is going to cannibalize 'Call of Duty' as much as 'Battlefield' does that," Pachter said in his interview with GamingBolt. While it is true that "Battlefield" sort of devoured "Call of Duty," the former considered to offer better gameplay, "Titanfall" fell of the radar a little bit.
"Titanfall 2" is regarded the most dynamic FPS in 2016, but EA admitted that sales have been disappointing, Forbes reported. Both "Titanfall" and "Battlefield" were part of EA's strategy into battling the new "Call of Duty" installment, but in an odd turnout, "Titanfall" was trampled by its own ally, "Battlefield."
Pachter's prediction follows the publication's question as to whether 2016 will see "Battlefield" finally outperform "Call of Duty" sales. Setting the question properly, the publication started with "Infinite Warfare's" poor reception, leading to "Battlefield's," which enjoyed universally positive reviews.
"I think that it's unfortunate for 'Call of Duty' that we've got 'Titanfall' ... I don't expect 'Call of Duty' to be bad, and I think it outsells Battlefield, but if it turns out to be bad, then I'm wrong..." The interview, which was published in December 5, also tackled Pachter's thoughts on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Scorpio, PS4 Pro, VR, "Red Dead Redemption," among others.
Michael Pachter has made a name for himself in the gaming and tech industry that can be credited to his hit-or-miss predictions. The analyst has established a street cred that's either responded with a smirk or a laugh. Sony's Shuhei Yoshida went for the latter, when Pachter mentioned that the PS4 and the Xbox One mark the last real console cycle.
According to DualShockers, Yoshida said that the death of game consoles has long been predicted and, yet, these predictions have been proven wrong every time. So it seems this is yet another miss for Pachter, who doesn't show a hint of stopping. You can read Pachter's full interview here.
