Tesla To Release Autopilot Update as New Year's Gift!
Shena GolosinoTesla Motors, one of the biggest companies in the U.S. has announced New Year's gift for their 1,000 customers. This gift will be activated through a suite of new autopilot which has the company's electric sedans.
According to USA Today, this Autopilot software upgrade, which is also called as the Autopilot HW2 or Hardware 2, will have its limited dissemination in the U.S. market. This is in reference to the Tesla Model S and X vehicles built after October which featured advanced radar, cameras and ultrasonic sensors.
Tesla's Chief Executive Elon Musk mentioned in a twitter post that Tesla would hold to verify that there are no field issues. Also, it will be expected that the rest will be uploaded next week.
It can be recalled that Tesla was on its spotlight all throughout 2016 because of several crashes in the U.S. as well as other countries. Most of the issues were due to improper usage and compromised Autopilot software operation. The most controversial incident was the death of tesla owner Joshua Brown after his Model S sedan crushed into a truck crossing path. It was unfortunate that the Autopilot system was not able to detect the truck's white side and it failed to function its brakes.
Meanwhile, according to TCC, this newest update of Tesla will have its over-the-air (OTA) which will have Auto-Steer, Forward Collision Warning, and Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC). However, these amazing features will only be activated at low speed. Also, it can only be activated on highways and undivided roads with at least 90 mph.
There will still be more news and updates about Tesla's innovations in 2017. So stay tuned to get posted!
