How To Level Up Safety And Protection Online This 2017
Caroline SorianoDespite many improvements, the security online seemed to be fragile nowadays. In fact, 2016 has given many opportunities for DOS (Denial of Service) attacks for simple home devices like CCTV Cameras. Basically, these attackers are asking for money or "ransom" in return, unless the owners want their file to be deleted.
Last year, Kaspersky shared their "Security Bulletin" which talks about the details of hacks that happened in the same year. This also shares predictions about hacks that would most likely to happen in 2017. Although such hacks are not happening, it is still safe to work on ways to become more secure and safe online.
The first thing to do is update by turning the Automatic Updates in Windows and Mac on. Installing updates basically deals with the security of the user in the online world. Some bothers doing it manually, however, it can be more convenient to have it updated automatically.
The next step is to backup. This is the simplest way to protect any files however, many users still forget to or simply take backing up for granted. But this should not be taken for granted instead, it should be prioritized by both Mac and Windows users to avoid being extorted. (via TechRadar)
In addition, changing the passwords into strong ones can increase your safety online. Some people thinks that this doesn't matter especially if they're not going online for a longer time or doesn't have anything valuable installed virtually. However, there's a lot more risk than what they've expected thus securing all of the accounts with difficult passwords is important. It is also a smart move to avoid using public Wi-Fi according to Reader's Digest.
Finally, the most obvious way to secure personal details is to avoid oversharing. Confidential matters such as birth date, mobile numbers, mother's maiden name, or anything that is too personal should not be divulged online. Taking simple but efficient steps are helpful compared to not taking anything at all.
