While Lumia 900 and Lumia 610 are already shipping with Windows Phone Tango, Nokia has finally started it global update rollout for its Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 smartphones.
Windows Phone Tango update brings some new features to Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 smartphones. The most significant update is Wi-Fi tethering that allows your Lumia smartphone to act as hotspot for Internet access to other Wi-Fi-enabled devices. Lumia phones can connect up to 5 devices simultaneously. The flip-to-silence feature turns off incoming call notifications when the smartphones is placed face down.
After installing the update, users may download new, exclusive apps from Nokia like Camera Extras. This add-on brings new features to camera UI including Panorama mode, Smart Group Shot, Action Shot and self-timer. With Smart Group Shot mode, user can take up to five pictures in a continuous press. Out of these continuously captured pictures, the best photo face for each person in the final photo is chosen automatically. However, Camera Extras are currently available in U.S. and China only.
In addition, the update brings DLNA sharing feature to broadcast videos from Lumia smartphone to DLNA enabled devices like TVs and home entertainment systems.
As always, the update is rolling out in phases. The availability of Windows Phone Tango update depends on your device, region and network carrier. Among Lumia 710 and 800, the former is first to received the update. Tango update for Lumia 710 is available from T-Mobile and Rogers in U.S. and Canada respectively, while Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile are rolling out the update for Lumia 710 in the UK. The full worldwide rollout is expected to take place before the end of July.
