Why 'Yooka-Laylee' Was Cancelled For Wii U; Playtonic Bringing It To Nintendo Switch Instead
Gloven RamosThe upcoming Playtonic Games' "Yooka-Laylee" will be launched this year, but just recently, it was announced that the game's Wii U version is cancelled. According to the developer, the cancellation is due to the unforeseen technical issues.
Playtonic Games now are working with Nintendo to bring the "Yooka-Laylee" game to the upcoming Nintendo Switch instead. The development team said they wanted to explore every possible way before making the decision to transfer the game from Wii U to Switch.
Playtonic Games did not share any specific information about the reason of the cancellation of "Yooka-Laylee" to Wii U. But they only cited the problem as "unforeseen technical issues."
To develop and complete the "Yooka-Laylee" game, the creator used the crowdfunding site Kickstarter. In this way, they can ask and receive donations from the public for the game development.
The "Yooka-Laylee" Kickstarter began in May 2015 and one of its original promises is to bring the game in Wii U. Now that the Wii U version is cancelled, those who donated to the project to get the latter version may choose other versions of the game or wait until the Nintendo Switch is released.
Polygon reports that those who donate to the game for the Wii U version may contact the Playtonic Games for a refund. They also added that the developers' attempts to solve the issues, but unfortunately, it's not been possible to bring the "Yooka -Laylee" to the promised console.
Playtonic Games opened pre-orders of the "Yooka-Laylee" game on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC for a final price of $39.99 USD according to MMO-Champion report. At this pre-order price, those who pledged early will get the game at a discount.
This "Yooka-Laylee" game will be available for Linux, Windows, PS4, Xbox One, OS X, and eventually for Nintendo Switch. The game's scheduled release date is on April 11, 2017 .
