Earlier this year, HTC unveiled the lowest-end member of its One series Android smartphone, the One V, which would hit a number of outlets in U.S. this summer. It looks like that the rollout has started as Virgin Mobile and U.S. cellular are already offering the device, while outlet stores are waiting in the line to begin selling the One V smartphone in U.S.
Virgin Mobile is apparently the first network carrier to offer HTC One V in the U.S. Virgin Mobile USA started selling HTC One V last week for $199 without a contract. You can know more about the deal here.
The latest addition to HTC One V bandwagon is U.S. Cellular that started offering it on Tuesday. The smartphone is available for $129 after $100 mail-in rebate for online purchases on U.S. Cellular's Web site. It will also hit U.S. Cellular's retail stores on July 6. The deal behind the lower prices at the carrier is that users have to commit 2-year enrollment with the carrier. For prepaid purchases the device is priced at $249 on U.S. Cellular.
Introduced at Mobile World Congress in February, HTC One V boasts an aluminum unibody chassis but it is more like an entry-level smartphone. It packs 4.7-inch display with 480 x 800 pixels resolution. It runs on single-core 1 GHz Snapdragon processor with 512MB of RAM. There is only 4GB of in-build storage in the device, but it offers memory card support, up to 32GB, to fill the hole.
Fortunately, the device runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, topped by Sense UI 4.0 overlay, and with Beats Audio integration. The One V has 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash support that can record 720p HD videos. However, there is no secondary camera in the device.
The connectivity features in HTC One V include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi Direct and hotspot functionality, Bluetooth 4.0, HSPA+ network support, microUSB v2.0, radio FM and assisted GPS.
HTC One V is nothing like a flagship smartphone. But it is a good choice for those who are looking for an adequate option - a budget smartphone with premium offerings.
Apart from cellular service providers, HTC One V will arrive at Best Buy, Wal-Mart and RadioShack in upcoming few weeks.
