Tesla Model 3 Update: CEO Elon Musk Keeps Morgan Stanley Analyst Guessing, Hints At Big Upcoming Announcements
Ritwik RoyTesla CEO Elon Musk has kept fans and investors guessing when Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas asked about Model 3 while taking a tour of the automaker's Nevada Gigafactory. They were there for the investor event where Musk discussed the progress being made at the battery plant and also revealed that he plans to bring much more than just battery pack manufacturing to the Gigafactory.
However, according to Electrek, Musk did hint at some big upcoming announcements about Tesla Model 3 though he only gave a very idiomatic hint, something that goes in the line of "Let's keep our Model 3 powder dry on announcements," which can only translate to being ready for a challenge with little warning. But when pressed a bit more on the $35,000 EV, Musk refused to answer any question.
"We currently expect a later launch than consensus, but we also expect a better car. Elon Musk was asked to provide any update on the Model 3 ramp and timing. According to Mr. Musk, they feel 'pretty good' about the pace of progress at the Gigafactory which manufactures the Model 3 battery pack, electric motor, drivetrain and power electronics," Jonas said about his interaction with Musk at the Nevada Gigafactory.
Earlier, Musk had confirmed that he would hold a special unveiling event (the third part) for the Tesla Model 3 in the first quarter of 2017. However, it is highly likely that there will be delay in bringing the Model 3 to the market. The batteries produced at the Gigafactory will help in significantly reducing the cost of li-ion batteries and also make the Tesla vehicles more American.
In fact, the Tesla vehicles will be 95 percent made in the US and can easily become the most-American vehicle in production. This will be true only when Tesla adds the "2170" battery cells to Model 3 cars.
