‘The Last Guardian’ Parodied On ‘Honest Game Trailers’ [Video]
Cris Xander Juliano"The Last Guardian" game took forever to develop when it was announced in 2007. When it was finally released in 2016, the gaming community had mixed reactions to the finished game. This eventually led people to request an "Honest Game Trailer" treatment of the game, according to a report by Techno Buffalo.
"Honest Game Trailers" is a segment in the YouTube channel Screen Junkies, an Emmy nominated series where they create parody trailers of movies, games and occasionally TV shows. It was nominated for Outstanding Short Form Variety Series at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards.
According to a report by Cinema Blend, the parody trailer of "The Last Guardian" poked fun at the basic motions that gamers do in the game, like petting Trico to increase your bond with it, feeding it barrels for it to follow your commands and directing it around while trying not to be distracted.
The parody trailer praised the game for Trico's lifelike animations. However, it took shots at the little boy's animations that sometimes render him flailing unintentionally which usually happens when he gets caught in between tight areas.
The trailer also made fun where a lot of people complained about, which way to go. There is no HUD in the game so players have trouble of where to go next and they have to discover it manually. Unlike in other games, an arrow points the player on where to go next.
Lastly, the parody trailer made fun of the duration of developing this game that took 10 years to make, alongside "Duke Nukem Forever" and "Final Fantasy XV". Although the trailer did mention that "The Last Guardian" turns out to be a decent game.
