Apple iPad Pro 2 Sporting A 10.5-Inch Display; New iPad Mini 5, iPad Air 3 To Arrive In 2017 [VIDEO]
Vinay PatelWith the rumor mill has not ceased swirling speculations around Apple's next-generation flagship smartphone, the iPhone 8, it looks like Apple is focusing on taking the wraps off its 10.5-inch iPad Pro 2017 while sprucing up the iPad Mini 5 and the iPad Air 3 line with new robust processors.
Multiple reports running rampant on the internet have been hinting at an impending arrival of a new iPad Pro that features an edge-to-edge display, and while various sources suggest it would be somewhere around 10-inches, the purported device is subject to mixed speculations about the specific size of its display.
With the Nexus line and other manufacturers hardly showing any interest in the tablet segment, the iPad has an opportunity to garner a huge consumer base citing the lack of options in the market. Besides, the alleged 10.5-inches display should facilitate multi-tasking, according to Studio Neat designer Dan Provost, who recently wrote a post on Medium (via Daring Fireball). While Provost's math seems quite believable, his line of reasoning also makes sense, scouting out all the rumors surrounding the iPad Pro 2 in a new frame of reference.
When announcing the 12.9-inch iPad Pro a couple of years ago, Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller made clear that the company had to opt for that size considering that the width of the tablet was similar to the height of the current 9.7-inch iPad. Schiller noted that the 12.9-inch iPad Pro was like using two 9.7-inch iPads next to each other.
Provost brings the same concept into play for the iPad mini. The width of a 10.5-inch iPad would be same as the height of the iPad mini screen. Aside from that, a 10.5-inch iPad would adapt the same resolution as the 12.9-inch model i.e 2732 x 2048, with the pixel density matching the iPad mini (326 ppi instead of 264 ppi).
Several sources have been indicating that the rumored iPad Pro 2 will be bordering on 10 inches; however, it's worth noting that latest reports have hinted at everything from 10.1 inches to 10.9 inches giving the impression that the Cupertino-based tech firm could be trying out different prototypes.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who originally predicted that the tablet would come bearing a 10.5-inches display, recently changed his statement claiming that it could be anywhere from 10 to 10.5-inches. Meanwhile, Japanese blog Mac Otakara (via MacRumors) released a couple of separate reports, one suggesting the display will measure in at 10.1-inch and the other mentioning a 10.9-inches tablet.
Rumors springing from the Taiwanese supply chain, on the other hand, allude to a 10.5-inch display. While it remains to be seen whether or not Apple will come out with a 10.5-inch display, it's the size that seems likely to pan out.
There's also hearsay that the new iPad Pro 2 will be a new flagship model that will be up for grabs alongside the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It will reportedly sport an edge-to-edge display with no Home button and a tiny top bezel.
