‘Star Wars’ TV Series Remains A Possibility; See What ABC Chief Has To Say
Caitlin MooreThough "Star Wars" TV series could be a huge hit given the franchise's huge audience, ABC Chief Channing Dungey said that the project remains a mere possibility for now. Lucasfilm is seemingly focused on its movie project and Disney XD's "Star Wars: Rebels." That said, fans will not see a live-action adaptation of the popular space film series created by George Lucas anytime soon.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dungey revealed that there were talks about bringing "Star Wars" to ABC. However, it may take more time before the network and Lucasfilm make that a reality. Dungey described it to be "far into the future."
He also confirmed that the focus now of Lucas is the film and Disney XD's animated series. The current film in the franchise is the "Rogue One," which is a standalone movie centered on a group with a mission to steal an ultimate weapon of destruction. It is a spinoff to the original story where new ordinary characters are featured.
Disney XD's "Star Wars: Rebels," on the other hand, is now on its third season. It airs every Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. and is set before the events of "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope." It follows the story of the Ghost crew and their rebellion against the Imperial forces surrounding several planets in the galaxy.
As pointed out by GameSpot, Lucasfilm Producer Rick McCallum already prepared 50 scripts for a new "Star Wars" TV show last year. Some of the scripts were reportedly written by Screenwriter and Television Producer Ron Moore. However, due to some financial concerns on production and minimal ownership stake, the teams concerned opted not to pursue the development of the series in the meantime.
