‘The Flash’ Season 3 Spoilers & Cast Updates: Eddie’s ‘Coming Back,’ Confirms Actor Rick Cosnett; Villain Eobard Thawne Could Return, Too
Athena Dee"The Flash" Season 3 will reportedly feature the return of one of the series' most loved characters. Fans of the hit show on The CW should remember that Detective Eddie Thawne, played by Rick Cosnett, sacrificed his life in order to save the world, to put it mildly.
Through his sacrifice, Eobard Thawne -- his descendant from the future -- ceased to exist. Since Eddie was written off of "The Flash," Cosnett has been seen several times in cameos on different Earths. However, the actor, himself, has just confirmed that he is back in the latter half of "The Flash" Season 3 universe and that he is there to stay.
Cosnett made this announcement on Twitter. "Okay, hate to tease you, but now I can say it," he wrote. "I am coming back on 'The Flash.'" Unfortunately, he did not give away any further information regarding "The Flash" Season 3, or even about what his role is going to be.
Majority of the scenes of the most recent season was focused on the repercussions caused by Barry. The Scarlet Speedster changed a lot of timelines and these alteration of events brought different results that previously did not happen, such as the death of Cisco Ramon's brother. It was this plot twist that put a lot of strain on their friendship, an arc that will be more clear in "The Flash" Season 3.
The romantic relationship between Barry and Iris West have developed since Eddie's death. Now that Eddie - Iris' then-fiance - is coming back to "The Flash" Season 3, the status of Barry and Iris' relationship is in question.
It remains unclear whether or not Eddie's resurrection means Eobard is back as well. Eobard, or Harrison Wells, has been regarded as one of the series' strongest villains. Moreover, it was also reported that Eddie might actually be Savitar - and that he has actually been a villain the whole time. Given the details regarding Savitar, however, this possibility is believed to be highly unlikely.
