'Disgaea’ Developer NIS Games Open To Developing Multiplatform Games for Nintendo Switch, PS4; ‘Disgaea 5’ Switch Port May Happen
Arianne GiftJapanese developer Nippon Ichi Software is open to the possibility of developing multiplatform titles for both the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. NIS Games is the game developer behind "Disgaea: Hour of Darkness," "La Pucelle: Tactics and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure" and "Phantom Brave."
In an interview with Famitsu via NeoGAF, CEO Sohei Shinkawa discussed NIS and Sony's fruitful relationship and also acknowledged the studio's built-in fanbase on PlayStation platforms. "That's true. As you've said, we are a software company that has grown together with PlayStation, and are well aware that a lot of our fans are on PlayStation platforms," Shinkawa said. "So it is not as if we will stop developing games for PlayStation. Overseas, PlayStation 4 sales are incredibly strong and we will continue making games for the PlayStation 4 platform."
The CEO then acknowledged Japan's shift to portable gaming consoles, to which he said is something NIS can't simply ignore. The publisher added that developing games for Switch and PS4 is a huge possibility, which could mean the Switch port of "Disgaea 5" may well be a sign of things to come.
Shinkawa continued on to say that NIS games are well suited for portable gaming. According to him, both Nintendo Switch and PS4 should balance each other out.
Over at the NeoGAF forum, fans have so far received the news quite well, saying the Switch is the PS Vita successor and that Nintendo's new flagship is a Vita 2 with a built-in TV out and Nintendo support. With NIS Games' recent take on multiplatform games, gamers should expect shared multiplatform titles between Switch and PS4, not just from NIS but also from other Japanese developers.
Nintendo Switch launches worldwide on March 3. The console/handheld hybrid will carry "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," "1-2-Switch," "Skylanders Imaginators," and "Just Dance 2017."
