Apple Denies iPhone 6 Battery Replacement Program; Still Evaluating Service Statistics, A Source Says
Cores Grace MalaayEarlier reports from an Apple enthusiast site have been circulating that the iPhone 6 is getting a battery replacement program soon with an undisclosed reason as the smartphone has been known for its battery issues that shut down prematurely (at 30 percent). However, Apple has denied this and a number of Apple retail stores in the United States have also confirmed that none of them know that there is something in the works for a battery replacement.
"We constantly evaluate service statistics. There are no plans or grounds for a wide iPhone 6 battery exchange program at this time," a source from the tech giant told Apple Insider. This was also confirmed by several Apple retail stores that were asked about the iPhone 6 battery replacement program suggesting that Apple is not taking part on any larger scale with what's already been placed for the smartphone.
Although the source inside Apple refuted that there is any wide battery replacement program in the works, according to Digital Trends, it could be something smaller that will happen soon or in the future. Apple also suffered backlash with the degrading batteries of its iPhone 5 models in 2014 and set up a return and replacement program although those units sold during the five-month window are the only part of the program.
Apple ended the replacement program in 2016 and the iPhone 6s' battery replacement repair extension is now in place for those units sold between September and October 2015. You can check out your device's eligibility via an online tool.
The company decided to have a free battery exchange program for some iPhone 6s units last fall following the discovery of a Chinese consumer protection agency that some of these units would shut down with the battery life at 30 percent. The limited scope of the exchange program left some of the iPhone 6s owners disappointed if not frustrated.
