Motorola Droid Razr HD: Verizon's Successor to Razr Maxx Leaked in FCC Code

Johnny Wills

The last time we heard about the highly anticipated Motorola Droid Razr HD was in June, when folks at Droid Life leaked some blurry images of the upcoming smartphone. The Motorola smartphone has apparently gone through the FCC system and come out at the other end with an approval.

According to the FCC filing, the new Motorola smartphone, codenamed XT926, packs CDMA bands (820/1900 MHz) suggesting that the handset is headed to Verizon Wireless. Model number XT926 is higher than that found in the Droid Razr and Razr Maxx, indicating a new successor in the family. The FCC document confirms that the XT926 will join Android heavyweights by offering LTE and NFC connectivity.

Last month, Droid Life leaked blurry shots of the alleged smartphone, showing Motorola, Verizon Wireless, and 4G LTE logos at the back. Motorola is stuck at the Kevlar back packing, which is also a good thing. Main camera (rumored to be 13-megapixel) is located in the center with LED Flash to the left and a loudspeaker on the right. The images show HDMI port, microUSB port, and volume rocker to be located on the side of the device. Following a request from Motorola, Droid Life has removed the leaked images from its Web site.

The leaked image and the FCC document do not reveal much about the Droid Razr HD. However, rumors surrounding the smartphone point to an AT&T Atrix HD and Razr Maxx combination, packing the best feature of both these smartphone i.e., HD display and a monstrous battery.

Rumored specification of the Droid Razr HD include a 4.7-inch HD display, a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, microSD card support of up to 32GB, 12- or 13-megapixel camera, Near Field Communication (NFC), 3300 mAh battery, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.

At this juncture, it is unclear when the Droid Razr HD will enter the front line at Verizon Wireless. Nevertheless, with the Galaxy S3 out on the shelves and iPhone 5 releasing in the distant future, the Razr HD seems unlikely to debut this year. Taking into account the February 2012 debut of Motorola Droid Razr Maxx, the Razr HD is expected in the first quarter of 2013.
