PS 4 Costs $57K In Venezuela, According To Linio’s Technology Price Index; Where The Cheapest And Most Expensive Game Consoles Are Sold
Arianne GiftNon-Venezuelan gaming fans should be glad of the current price for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, regardless of one's opinion that the cost of consoles have gotten too high. A study conducted by Linio has revealed where in the world the cheapest and most expensive video game hardware are found, and their findings could leave one slack-jawed.
Figures revealed by the Latin America retailer Linio compare and contrast the price of PS4 and Xbox One in select countries around the world, which they adjusted to American dollars and Euros. The retailer's findings show that Western Europe is the cheapest place to buy PS4, while Latin America ranks the most expensive. The data is based from "at least the ten largest retailers in the country's five largest cities."
The US ranks 13th on the PS4 list and 31st on the Xbox One rankings in the cheapest category. According to Game Informer, this could be due to the relative strength of the Euro at the time the study was conducted. Canada, on the other hand, managed to crack the top five for both PS4 and Xbox One. Hungary took the no.1 spot at $246.89 for PS4, and Switzerland has the cheapest Xbox One at $222.55.
Meanwhile, the most expensive consoles in the world are found in the South and Latin America, South Africa, and Southeast Asia. This is due to import tariffs and other factors that contribute to the high price of consoles.
The most surprising entry on the list is the profanity-triggering prices of video game consoles in Venezuela, a country currently fraught with skyrocketing inflation. According to the list, the PS4 costs $56,723.53 in Venezuela, and the Xbox One costs $37,073. As if this isn't mind-numbing enough, Venezuela's ongoing fight against inflation isn't limited to electronics alone; the cost of basic food has also gone up, reported CNN.
