‘Hitman’ Update To Add HDR Support On All Platforms Late January; Io-Interactive Spills Details
Arianne GiftIo-Interactive will launch a "Hitman" update that adds High Dynamic Range (HDR) support on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One S and PC. The update will see the assassination adventure game in a more dynamic setting, "allowing for more vibrant graphics, the developer said.
"Hitman" programmer Anders Wang Kristensen explained that HDR lets the player to see outside a bright window while standing in a dark room. "Without HDR you would not be able make out what's outside, whereas with HDR you can simultaneously see details inside the room and outside the window," Kristensen said. Io noted on Twitter that the update will be available on all platforms, except for the original Xbox One.
HITMAN will support HDR from January 31st on PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One S and PC.

The programmer went on to detail what HDR is capable of, setting the sun as an example. According to Kristensen, the sun will not be rendered brighter than a white piece of paper without HDR. "With HDR we can draw the sun several times brighter, so that it is actually close to being blinding, just like in real life," he added.
This isn't the first "Hitman" update aimed towards better resolution. PlayStation Lifestyle reported in November 2016 about "Hitman's" PS4 Pro support. This improved the game's resolution overall, enhanced reflective surfaces, added detailed lighting effects and reduced aliasing. In addition, the game's UI has been set in native 4K. To those without a 4K monitor, the image will be downsampled to 1080p to receive less flickering highlights and higher quality shading.
The complete first season of "Hitman" will be available on retail beginning January 31. Io has also confirmed that a second season of the game will happen, although details and the release window haven't been laid out yet. What's confirmed as of this writing is that "Hitman" season 2 will run on the same engine. This means devs are able to create content on a quick turnaround and will have more liberty when it comes to the game's Elusive Targets and other missions.
