We have seen an interesting trend in the names of Google's Android operating system. Since the third edition, Google has always named their operating systems and updates related to something sweet. It was Kit Kat before, and currently, it is Android 7.0 Nougat. News has it that the upcoming Android 8.0 version may be called the Android 8.0 Oreo. If that is indeed the case, Google needs to get the right of using the name from the makers of Oreo cookies, just like they did for Kit Kat (Android 4.0). However, Android 8.0 Oreo release still has a few months to go.

Google usually makes use of I/O event to announce the next version of the Android operating system. This event usually takes place in May or June each year, but Google still hasn't officially confirmed any event or announcement. The release of each version takes place almost 4 months after each such announcement. Android 8.0 Oreo will probably be released for users in August or September.

We know that more than half of the world's smartphones run on the Android operating system. However, the adoption rate for newer versions of Android operating system is still quite slow. Not more than 1% of the current Android using population is using Android 7.0 Nougat. Android exists in different versions in different phones and depends on the branding of the phone it is a part of. For example, Google Pixel runs on the raw and original version of Android 7.0 Nougat.

However, Samsung's Galaxy phones will run on a Samsung modified version of Android 7.0 Similarly, Android 8.0 Oreo may also be modified according to different phone brands as per their requirement and they will release these hybrid and modified versions of their products. Smartphones released 18 months before the release of Android 8.0 Oreo should hopefully receive the update.

The expected features of Android 8.0 Oreo may include integration with virtual reality. Maybe we can see more features from Google Daydream project meshed within. It may also include lots of integration and improvisation to Google Assistant. The security features may also see good strengthening with better malware detection systems. It is also being rumored that upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with Android 8.0 Oreo. Keep browsing MobileNApps for more updates!
