'Pokemon Go' Update: New Price Hike Likely To Affect In-App Purchases Ahead Of Pokemon Gen 2 Release [VIDEO]
Vinay PatelLooks like Pokemon fans might have to shell out more money in order to get their hands on the upcoming "Pokemon Go" update. Amidst multiple reports indicating that the new Gen 2 lineup is just around the corner, there's word floating around that the "Pokemon Go" update could arrive bearing a steeper price tag, but not everyone will be affected.
Apparently, the update is likely to burn a hole in the pockets of only iOS users in India, Turkey and the UK, who are no strangers to making in-app purchases. The changes experienced in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England are linked to the Brexit vote as well as UK's decision to depart from the EU, which resulted in a major change in the valuation of Sterling in comparison to other currencies.
Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly prepping to set their prices up in the App's Sore's in India, Turkey and the UK. UK costs are slated to match those in the US. In other words, a straight dollar-to-pound exchange, Express reported. It's worth noting that the price hike will only affect in-app purchases, while subscription charges will remain unaffected.
Moreover, the rumor mill seems to be swirling a slew of speculations around the next generation creatures that are headed to "Pokemon Go." Fans of Niantic Labs' mobile sensation would be hoping that the update introduces an array of never-before-seen creatures, which are waiting to be caught.
A recently surfaced patch that confirmed Gen 2's looming arrival, further elevated their hopes. However, there's no word regarding the update's exact launch date.
While the upcoming update is not yet associated with a release date, Forbes' Dave Thier believes that the best time for Niantic Labs to unveil its first major expansion is the first day of spring i.e. March 21. He backs his claims noting that transition seasons encompass more regions than most. This is the right time also because it's not too hot in territories that are likely to be heading towards it simultaneously, when regions of North are bidding adieu to winter.
