iPhone 5 Mini Dock Connector Adapter 'Leaked' on Online Apple Store? Not Likely

Johnny Wills

Apple may have dropped details on the next iPhone via its own online store. According to recent reports surfacing online, a webpage associated with a dock adapter to connect old iAccessories with iPhone 5's mini dock connector accidentally went live on the Apple Store.

A blogger behind the website AWhiteDot.com came across the adapter's page on the Apple Store. The adapter purportedly lets old accessories with 30 pins connect with the new iPhone, which features a smaller dock connector. Priced at $9.99, it appears that the doc adapter may be available in white and black colors to match the colors of the iPhone. The adapter may be made of aluminum, as it looks similar to Apple's MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Adapter, which is made out of the same material.

However, more interesting than the adapter is the portfolio of iGadgets compatible with it. One of the leaked images indicates that the adapter will hook up with the fifth generation iPod Touch, a seventh generation iPod Nano and two new iPads, coming out late in 2012. It looks like the tech giant just leaked the whole list of new Apple handheld devices coming out in 2012.

The blogger from AWhiteDot posted several screenshots and a video about where he found the adapter on Apple's website, but the page to which the blogger navigates in the video now shows a 404 error message. It seems that Apple removed the page after discovering their mistake.

Rumor has long expected Apple to debut its next smartphone with a smaller port. AWhiteDot's claim matches up with earlier reports, but there is cause to doubt the validity of these screenshots. Firstly because the $9.99 price of the adapter seems remarkably low for an Apple product or accessory. Moreover, the screenshots of the purported U.S. Apple Store page mention the device's 'colour', which is not the U.S. English spelling of the word.
