Project Scorpio Updates: ‘Ori and the Blind Forest’ Dev Praises Scorpio, Calls PS4 ‘A Half-Assed Upgrade’
Arianne GiftIt was a high time for the Xbox team this week, with Phil Spencer himself revealing that he had a great day with the Project Scorpio team, who is hard at work on Microsoft's mid-generation console upgrade. Things got a little awkward, though, when "Ori and the Blind Forest" developer Thomas Mahler shared his thoughts on Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro, in comparison to Microsoft's Scorpio.
The Xbox boss' tweet above received some congratulatory replies and fan queries. Fans were generally excited and hyped, with Spencer even replying to some tweets regarding Project Scorpio.
Over at NeoGAF meanwhile, users have been talking about Spencer's tweet, with one user asking if Project Scorpio is Microsoft's PlayStation Pro. In response, Moon Studios' CEO (makers of 'Ori and the Blind Forest') Thomas Mahler made quite a bold opinion towards Sony's console.
"Scorpio isn't just a half-assed upgrade (which the PS4 Pro kinda is...), but a full blown next-gen machine that's just backwards-compatible to your current library," Mahler said. As expected, the thread got a little heated, with users bombarding the CEO with some questions asking him to explain. GameSpot has verified that the account posting the comments does indeed belong to Mahler.
This is not the first for Mahler to speak out on game platform holders. Last year, he called hardware manufacturers "insanely secretive ... to a stupid degree." Moon Studios' boss expressed his frustrations over the fact that even devs don't have access to specs and the like. It should be noted that Mahler's game, "Ori and the Blind Forest," is exclusive to Xbox consoles and PC.
Microsoft has yet to fully unveil Project Scorpio, but Eurogamer got its hands on some leaked specs and published them this week. Project Scorpio is expected to launch later this year.
