Miami is reportedly aiming to be the smartest city in the United States. Following a partnership with CIVIQ Smartscapes, Miami is expected to implement a fully interconnected smart city ecosystem that provides access to highly technological city services. The project is set to begin in the next three months and will start with installing digital Waypoints across the community.

Up to 300 digital Waypoints are expected to be installed and maintained in Miami as part of the urban transformation. The digital Waypoints are said to be "smart city communications devices" that include free public Wi-Fi and USB quick-charging spots. Around 1,000 Wi-Fi devices will be added in public transportation vehicles while and additional 51 Wi-Fi devices will be placed in transit stations, Yahoo Finance reported.

The new system of Wi-Fi connectivity stations is useful for residents in checking transportation schedules as pointed out by Digital Trends. Also, the services and devices would allow people to freely access the internet as necessary even when on the go.

Miami-Dade Director of Transportation and Public Works Alice N. Bravo said that it is more than a fresh take on accessing the internet. "Greater connectivity in the transit system means increased efficiency, less downtime, and overall better experiences for our passengers," Bravo explained.

What's interesting is CIVIQ Smartscapes will apparently deliver the services with no additional charges to Miami taxpayers according to the mayor's office. It is reportedly the goal of the technological landscape designer and manufacturer to give Miami residents the best "Citizen Mobility Experience."

Miami is believed to be an example of a city where technology's real value opens up to a more livable and sustainable community according to CIVIQ Global Government Development and Innovation Division Managing Director George Burciaga. The city and the company both aim to create a more efficient government system with better connectivity access and build a stronger identity for its community through the said project.
