Google Pixel 2 Review: What’s Going To Make This Next-Gen Google Phone Exciting?
Arianne GiftGoogle's first Pixel phones are merely months old, but already the internet has a fair share of stories about the next generation of Pixel models. Speculations about the Pixel 2's upgraded features are sort of predictable, so now the question is, what's going to make the next flagship more exciting?
A report from 9to5 Google says the Pixel 2 will see significant improvements to the CPU and its camera, a water resistance feature and, of course, the unsurprising price bump. The usual parts will also get enhancements for sure. But how will it fare against biggies like iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy S8? Will Google look into this year's smartphone trends -- AI, perhaps? Will the next Pixel come with a 4K display?
One obvious direction for Pixel 2, according to the Android Central is a taller aspect ratio. LG and Samsung already did it -- the phone is about the same size and with better display dimensions, but is extra tall. A larger screen will do good to make multi-window more convenient on a phone size device, given that a 5.5-inch could be a little claustrophobic.
Both the original Google Pixel and Pixel XL are at odds with the coming wave of smartphones, such as the LG G6 and Galaxy S8, sporting the thinnest border around the display. Equally, the upcoming iPhone is reportedly going to be the same way. It's safe to say Google aced 2016's iPhone cycle, but with regard to Apple's forthcoming flagship, things might be more challenging.
Given that the heavily hyped iPhone is on its way, Samsung "rebranding" its cred with the Note 8, and solid upstarts like OnePlus becoming more aggressive, how Google reacts is actually something to watch out for. Will the Pixel 2 retain the crown that the current Pixel phones achieved, or will it run into a sophomore slump? Surely, Google has still a few tricks up its sleeves.
