Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Updates: New Firmware For Windows 10 Available; Not For Windows 8.1 Users
Van DMicrosoft launched a new firmware for the Surface Pro 3 with Windows 10 on Jan. 30, 2017. The update, listed as Surface Pro UEFI 3.11.2050.0, improved the overall system performance for the latest Windows versions.
The Surface Pro 3 update will be automatically installed, unless users turned off the feature, stated Digital Trends. Users can also install the new firmware manually by going to Settings, then Update & Security, then Windows Update. Choose the Check for updates option.
There will be two new updates for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 by Intel, namely the Intel HD Graphics Family 20.19.15.4568 and Intel Display Audio 6.16.00.3197. Both will enhance Miracast and docked video performance. Users who are still on Windows 8.1 will most likely miss these as an install option.
Microsoft last featured an update for the Surface Pro 3 in November 2017, which addressed a specific component of the firmware. Previously, there was an issue that misreported the full charge capacity of the battery to the device firmware and operating system. It kept the Surface Pro 3 from fully depending on the battery. The patch has since fixed the problem.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 launched in June 2014, while its successor, the Surface Pro 4, arrived in October 2014. Microsoft last featured the Surface Studio all-in-one PC and enhanced Surface Book with Performance Boost in October 2016. There are rumors that Microsoft is preparing to launch the Surface Pro 5 after the Creators Update becomes available on Windows 10 in spring 2017. Since its release, Microsoft has regularly featured system firmware updates to ensure the efficient and smooth performance of the Surface Pro 3.
The Surface Pro 3 featured a lighter and thinner design compared to its two predecessors. It also came with a 12-inch display and higher screen resolution. Its 2-in-1 design makes it a highly versatile product for people on the go. Users who wish to avail of the new update or Windows 10 may upgrade to the Surface Pro 4, which has a better screen and chipset. The newer device features an Intel Core i5 processor, 128GB of internal memory and 4GB of RAM, at a price of around $1000.
