What We Know About the PS4 Pro Game 'Days Gone'

SIE Bend Studio ("Syphon Filter," "Uncharted: Golden Abyss") announced the upcoming survival horror game "Days Gone" during E3 2016. The game will feature Deacon St. John, the "enigmatic protagonist" of "Days Gone."

SIE Bend Studio still hasn't revealed the release date of "Days Gone," per Games Radar. But the game will be published by Sony and it will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive title. The game will feature zombies, but they will be called "Freakers."

According to Trusted Reviews, the game will also fully support PS4 pro during its launch. On the PS4 Pro, "Days Gone" will look "amazing" on a 4K TV.

In the open-world survival horror game, Freakers can overwhelm Deacon if players are not careful. Strangely enough, the "Days Gone" trailer did not feature Freakers and instead was a "heartfelt, melancholy reflection on the enigmatic 'pandemic' which swept the world" The trailer also revealed how the pandemic affected the handful of survivors left behind.

It appears that unlike "The Last of Us" which focused on the characters, "Days Gone" will put the spotlight on the survival element of the game. While the release date for the game is unconfirmed, the game could be slated for a 2017 launch.

Since "Days Gone" is an open-world game, players can take their time exploring the map and deciding which objectives to complete. Bend Studio hinted that "how you might decide not to do a mission until you're better prepared for it" could mean that "much of the world will be accessible as a result of your abilities and skills as you progress" instead of a "gated level progression."

While the possibility of a multiplayer mode is only rumored, most of what was shown in the trailer suggest a single player game. Deacon, "Days Gone's" protagonist, is a former biker who became a bounty hunter after the pandemic.  Since the game is set two years after the pandemic, players might slowly find out more about Deacon's "troubled past" and why his girlfriend, who was shown in the trailer via flashbacks, is no longer with him.

The Freakers in the game aren't your textbook variety zombies, though. While they eat people, it is because of the "strange virus" that has turned them into "feral animals." Players might have to deal with as many as a hundred Freakers by "using guns, environmental kills, obstacles and good old fashioned running away."

Deacon will have a bike, which is also your main mode of transportation. Deacon's bike will also carry the rest of his gear. A crafting element is also present in the game, which could mean that players can scavenge for items to create various weapons.
