Apple's Patent Application Shows Wearable Battery Charger
Hemal VoraRecent patent application by Apple shows that the company has indeed found a solution to the issue of short battery life on the Apple Watch.
Apple Filed Patent For Battery Boost For Apple Watch
A recently leaked patent application shows a battery placed on the strap of a wearable device. The wearable device could be the Apple watch. The patent indicates that the face of the watch is circular in shape. This is different from the usual rectangular shape of the Apple Watch display, as reported by GSM Arena.
The Issue Of Battery Life In Apple Watch
Lack of long battery life has always been an issue of concern with regards to Apple Watch. Though the product went over its previous sale record mark in the 2016 holiday season, the fact that the watch requires charging each night was indeed affecting the product sales. The Apple Watch offers an 18-hour battery life, and if the user fails to charge the watch during the night after use through the day, the watch will be dead the next day. Extending the battery life will indeed make the Apple watch more competitive contender in the wearables market, as reported by CNET.
The Patent Gives Out Only Vague Details
However, it is not yet clear whether inclusion of the battery in the band will make the Apple watch bulkier or keep it exactly same. Also, it is not yet clear on how many batteries the Apple Watch will be having in case the battery will be embedded into the band itself. With regards to the patent image having a round dial, this is not for the first time Apple is getting the patent for a round dial watch design.
Also, it is notable that though the patent got out recently, it was filed in the month of July 2015. The interesting fact about this is that it is the same time the original Apple Watch was launched. It looks like Apple has been having the idea of Battery boost for a long time and are waiting for the right time to release it.
