"Lego Movie 2" will have welcome changes. Warner Bros., the studio behind the hit movie, 'Lego Movie,' has recently announced its hiring of a new director for the latest sequel of the movie. 'Lego Movie 2' is set to be directed by Hollywood director Mike Mitchell and is set for release some time next year. In its report, The Hollywood Reporter said that Warner Bros. has brought Mike Mitchell, the director behind the film "Trolls," in to direct the highly anticipated sequel.
This "Lego Movie 2" will be a lot different. Rob Schrab, the previous director of the film who is also known for his other TV projects such as "Community" and "The Mindy Project," is said to have dropped out of the project due to 'creative differences,' The Hollywood Reporter reports based from the pronouncement of some of its anonymous sources.

The original release for 'Lego Movie 2' was conceived to be May of next year. However, the recent occurrences relating to the changing of the film director has caused this original release date to be moved further to February of 2019. However, fans of the Lego franchise have no reason to be sad since some Lego action is set to come to the theaters this year with the release of "The Lego Batman Movie" which is set to premiere on February 10 of this year. Moreover, "The Lego Ninjago Movie" is also scheduled for a release on September 22 of this year.
The previous film, "Lego Movie", has earned more than $469 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. This predecessor had a star-studded cast as its voice actors which include Chris Pratt, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman.
The previous incarnation of the franchise was directed by Chriss Miller and Phil Lord. They are both currently working on a Star Wars Han Solo movie which just recently started filming. It has been reported that Warner Bros. has also hired BoJack Horseman creator, Raphael Bob-Waksberg for a rewrite of the sequel's script. However, it was Lord and Miller who originally wrote and directed the first film. The original draft of the sequel was also written by them.
