Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Pitted Against Intel's Curved Hybrid Laptops? [VIDEO]
Vinay PatelThe internet is rife with all sorts of speculations surrounding the new Microsoft Surface Pro 5's release date, specs and other features with some reports going as far as claiming that the upcoming device will sport 4K screen and Surface Dial.
Now, the rumor mill seems to have deviated its focus to a purported Surface Pro 5 competitor, thanks to an alleged patent that has made its way on the internet. The said patent hints at the presence of a new rival of the Surface Pro 5. Apparently, the alleged rival will come with a curved keyboard as well as a curved and detachable display.
Intel is reportedly hard at works on a new device that is expected to lock horns with Microsoft's Surface and Surface Pro line with a detachable display. As reported by TheLeaker, Intel has already patented an electronic device that sports detachable display. No prizes for guessing, the US-based chipmaker is gearing up to make its first foray into the market established by the Surface and Surface Pro ranges.
The sound of curved, detachable display is enough to confirm that Intel will be leaving no stone unturned in their bid to lure more consumers to its newfangled laptop hybrid. It's worth noting that Microsoft has not used a curved display for Surface devices until now.
Another proof that Intel is currently hard at works on a laptop hybrid is that the illustration in the leaked patent shows identical architecture to that of the Surface Pro. The only contrasting aspect is the curved display and the keyboard that's designed bearing the physical size and shape of the screen in mind. According to TheLeaker Intel is likely to adapt curved displays since the technology is quite prevalent among TV systems as well as PC monitors.
Meanwhile, other renders seem to focus on the curved 2-in-1's unrivaled cosmetic appearance that is expected to be quite unique compared to some top-notch hybrid laptops currently available in the market. Moreover, the thickness of the keyboard and the display are said to be identical. In other words, it will comprise a separate battery, storage space, and a dedicated processing unit.
In order to make its advent in the 2-in-1 market as effective as possible and to give its hybrid laptop an edge over other hybrids in the market, Intel is likely to employ its next-generation processors. However, there's no word regarding when Intel will unveil this hybrid laptop.
That being said, Microsoft's Surface Pro 4's long-awaited successor, the Surface Pro 5 is not spared from speculations either. Aside from harnessing the device with an array of jaw-dropping specifications upgrade, the Surface Pro 5 is rumored to be powered by Intel's seventh-generation Kaby Lake processor. It will also boast 4K resolution.
According to a previously leaked patent, the device will come with a rechargeable Surface Pen. Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is currently linked with an April 5 release date, but Microsoft has neither confirmed nor debunked these speculations.
