Tesla Model S P100D Beats Porsche 918 Turbo S Record As The Quickest Car In The World
Gloven RamosThe Tesla Model S P100D breaks the record of the world's quickest car, beating the previous record holder Porsche 918 Turbo S. It reached the zero 60 mph in under 2.275 seconds, .02 seconds faster than the Porsche.
The Tesla Model S P100D is also the first production car to reach 60mph in under 2.3 seconds in a motor trend speed test. Holding the title of the quickest car, it also beats the records of famous street-legal cars like Lamborghini, Ferrari and Bugatti.
However, according to Motor Trend, the Tesla Model S P100D does not hold the advantage forever. "Higher speeds give the advantage to horsepower over instant torque," the publication stated. "The Ferrari LaFerrari hits 70 mph a tenth of a second quicker; the Porsche 918 and McLaren P1 pull ahead at 80 mph, and these hypercars all continue to pull away at higher speeds."
Even with a new title under its belt, the Tesla Model SP100D would also lose to other powerful and faster cars. With its 760 horsepower, it could run from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds, but could only run up to 125 miles per hour, not even close to LaFerrari's record of 148.5 mph in 9.7 seconds.
The Tesla Model S P100D is an all-wheel-drive car, weighing about 5,062lb including the driver. Compared to its contemporaries, this Tesla Model S is a lot cheaper. Ferrari LaFerrari costs $1.5M, McLaren P1 is $1.1M, the Porsche 918 Spyder is $845,000, while the Tesla Model S is only $135,000.
All Tesla cars, including the Tesla Model S P100D have a full self-driving technology, which is the best thing that Tesla offers. Most expensive sports cars only have two seats, but the Model S has more space that can seat up to seven people including the driver seat. There are many features and technology installed in this car. For the complete list, visit their official website.
