For players of the original Guild Wars, developer ArenaNet is ensuring that the legacy of Tyrias' heroes continues into Guild Wars 2. Through an area called the Hall of Monuments in the Eye of the North expansion in Guild Wars, players can earn points to claim rewards. Those rewards can be claimed in Guild Wars 2.
ArenaNet described the process in a blog post. FIrst, players need to link a Guild Wars 2 account with their original Guild Wars account. To do so, head to to the Guild Wars 2 account page, log in with Guild Wars 2 information, then click "Link accounts" and enter their original Guild Wars information. Players unsure of their Guild Wars account information can download the original Guild Wars client from ArenaNet's website or open a support ticket with ArenaNet.
When the accounts are linked, players will then use the e-mail address associated with Guild Wars 2 to sign in, a useful change for original Guild Wars accounts with now-defunct email addresses.
For players unsure what the "Hall of Monuments" is or how rewards can be claimed, check out the Hall of Monuments calculator. Entering an original Guild Wars character name will show a points tally and available rewards. Thirty-five rewards are available in total, with the first 30 being in-game items from weapons to minipets to armor inspired by the original Guild Wars. The final 5 points go towards titles.
Though Guild Wars 2 is now available to play for pre-purchasers, players looking to earn the points perhaps should start in the original Guild Wars. The community's guides will help players work through the various rewards, though realistically, at this point only existing Guild Wars players should try gaining points. New Guld Wars players will have to invest hundreds of hours and substantial amounts of in-game money, when that time could be spent in Guild Wars 2.
Guild Wars will be released August 28 on PC, though is available now for players that pre-purchased the game. The game is approximately 25GB to download/install.
