‘NieR: Automata’ Dev Explains Why Game Is Better Off Without Xbox One Port; Free Shirt For EU Pre-Orders Announced In Weird Video
Arianne GiftDespite The original "NieR" coming to Xbox 360, both Platinum Games and Square Enix have said that the highly anticipated sequel, "NieR: Automata," will not release on Xbox One. Producer Yosuke Saito explained the reason behind the decision, revealing that Japan's response to Microsoft's console wasn't as strong.
"There are currently no plans to release on this platform," Saito said in an interview with Express UK. "The main reason for this is that the Japanese market for Xbox One is not strong, so the decision was made to focus on PlayStation 4 rather than to split our efforts across two platforms."
The producer then added that developing "NieR: Automata" on one platform allowed the team to focus more on the quality, as the team did not have to split their time. Saito was quick to point out that it's not about which platform is better; rather it's from a development point of view where the team can devote more time to one platform.
In related news, "NieR: Automata" Director Yoko Taro sent out a "special message" for fans in Europe, announcing that a free t-shirt is in store upon pre-order. It's a straightforward offer; however, the video posted on PlayStation Lifestyle rather comes off as weird.
After announcing the "NieR: Automata" pre-order freebie, Taro gives his mic to Platinum Games' designer, Taura Takahisa, tackles him, takes off his t-shirt, rolls to the ground and gives Square Enix a shout-out. Whether this will encourage more pre-orders we'll never know, but as of now, the offer is only available in Europe.
"NieR: Automata" is the sequel to the 2010 RPG "NieR," released for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The game paid homage to multiple genres, featuring hack and slash elements, as well as shoot-em-up gameplay, dungeon crawling and even a text adventure section. It is headed to the PS4 on March 7 in North America and March 10 in Europe.
