The 'NieR: Automata’ Commercial That Square Enix Censored For Japan; Too Violent For TV?
CJ Estimada"NieR: Automata" will soon hit the gaming arena via PS4 March 7 -- and it is no doubt going to be unique. This unusual JRPG is co-developed by Square Enix and PlatinumGames. A rather over-the-top action title, it features a story about most of humanity being forced to flee to the moon and androids defending Earth from an alien invasion.
It has been reported that a TV commercial for "Nier: Automata" was not allowed to be aired on Japanese TV because it was deemed too violent. Many Japanese websites are reporting on the game's new commercial, which was actually not allowed to be aired on TV . Because of this, a censored version was created.
The "NieR: Automata" Censored And Uncensored Commercials
"NieR: Automata" ired an likewise fairly peculiar ad to fit its odd subject matter. There are two versions of the unsettling commercial. One can be aired on TV in Japan, while the other probably won't because of its content. Some say it's too violent; others say its unsettling. It features creepy dolls being sent down a conveyor belt collected into piles at the beginning of the ad before cutting to a bit of gameplay footage.
In the uncensored version, some broken dolls are being stabbed, crushed, impaled with a drill. A character was stabbed and left bleeding, which was replaced in the censored version by a character being knocked away in the middle of a fight. The censored version of the "NieR: Automata" ad actually remains the same but opening shot just shows the broken dolls, shared Censored Gaming in a video on Youtube.
In the commercial shown by Kotaku, the narrator says "We were born to be destroyed. Action RPG "NieR: Automata." Even though we're inanimate, we kill each other." Watching those dolls get destroyed may be a little much, but it's definitely an attention-grabber. Hopefully this version of the ad generates "NieR: Automata" some hype online. The PC version is awaited to be announced at a slightly later date. Stay tuned for updates and more news.
