"You gotta catch 'em al!l" That is the message for trainers who will be buying Pokemon Black and White 2, launching this October in North America. For players looking to get a headstart on collecting all 150 Pokemon, a legendary Pokemon is will be available from day one for early buyers.
Genesect is a legendary pokemon of the bug and steel type, whose exclusive move, "Techno Blast," adjusts "its power levels based on the foe it's battling," according to Nintendo. It sounds as if using the move will increase the Genesect's stats if the opposing Pokemon is a higher level, though this is not yet known for certain. Nintendo did not specify other moves that can be learned.
Although it was introduced prior to the release of Pokemon Black and White in 2010, the upcoming event is the first time U.S. players can gain Genesect, and whether the pokemon will be available later in-game is unconfirmed.
To get Genesect, players will need to buy Pokemon Black and White between the October 2 and November 12. Players then simply connect to Wi-Fi with the Nintendo DS or 3DS, and Genesect will be downloaded. Similar events previously allowed players to get Mewtwo and Mew by connecting to Wi-Fi in certain locations at a certain time.
The last time Nintendo held an event to download a legendary Pokemon, the Pokemon started at level 15, though no level is confirmed for Genesect. It would be surprising if Nintendo offered the Pokemon with a high starting level, as trainers would be able to simply walk through most of the game, and it would alter the dynamic of capturing and levelling Pokemon to compete.
Pokemon Black and White 2 are the sequels to the original Black and White, rather than the traditional release of two new titles. The games are also built for Nintendo DS, not Nintendo 3DS.
Pokemon Black and White 2 releases Oct. 7, in 2012 in North America, Oct. 11 in Australia, and Oct. 12 in Europe for Nintendo DS.
