‘Shenmue’ 1 & ‘Shenmue’ 2 HD Remasters Reportedly Coming in 2017; Details
Arianne GiftYu Suzuki's "Shenmue" series are set to return in December 2017 with "Shenmue 3." However, players might not have to wait that long to get their fix as remasters of "Shenmue 1" and "Shenmue 2" are reportedly on their way.
Early in January 2017, SEGA registered domain names that hinted a "Shenmue 1 and 2" remasters. This speculation comes from Sega Europe registering two domains: shenmuehd.com and shenmueremastered.com. UK blog and online retailer Rice Digital seems to confirm the hints, as it reported recently that the remasters will launched this year.
Interestingly, Gematsu said that the report's author is a primary source of accurate leaks in the past. This includes the news of Atlus releasing "The King of Fighters XIV" in the West a few days before it was officially announced. Rice Digital claims that its information is from a trusted source close to Atlus.
"Both games, Episodes I & II, may be released together rather than separately," said the author. "They are presumably being geared up for launch to precede Shenmue III, which could possibly slip into 2018." Previously, it was presumed that "Shenmue 1" and "Shenmue 2" is going to have a PC/Steam only release, but a recent update states that the source has refused to specify publisher or exact platforms but a PC release will be in the cards. Additionally, the remasters are reportedly almost done.
Meanwhile, "Shenmue 3" has been given a December 2017 release window. It was announced during Sony's E3 2015 press conference where the game's Kickstarter campaign was announced. The crowdfunding initiative is a successful one, raising over $6,500,000. The game is being published by Ys Net, and Sony is handling the marketing duties. The highly anticipated sequel will come out on PlayStation 4 and PC. You can check out some of the game's screenshots and details on their Kickstarter page.
